Last Chance U
Hey loyal followers, welcome back to my arts and entertainment blog. Have any of you seen this new sports documentary show on Netflix lately called “Last Chance U”? It is this really interesting show that follows an American Community College in Scooba Mississippi that goes after players who have been dismissed from the National Collegiate Athletics Association schools and need to get good grades somewhere before they can get another chance at playing big time football, thus the last chance. I thought it showed some lesser thought of aspects in college sports, and it has some compelling players that you want to see succeed regardless of on field talent. The show was filmed in 2015 so some players have been able to move on from Eastern Mississippi Community College onto bigger fields, whilst some realized the hurdles in front of them and took advantage of their situation to get an education.
The show had a strange ending, with the team engaging in a bench clearing brawl with a rival in state team. A player for the Lions was on the ground when members of the opposing team starting to stomp on him, engaging more members of the Lions to help their teammate. The result was a 50+ person brawl, with coaches from each team getting involved as well. The game was forfeited by both teams, meaning the Lions would miss playoffs. It was later discovered that the opposing team staged the fight in order to end the Lions playoff hopes, adding the final nail in the coffin to the team. Hopefully the other team had some consequences after this was broadcasted on such a big stage, but we will have to wait until the next season to find out.
